Ilana M. Ventura

PhD Candidate in Sociology, University of Chicago

Ilana, received her PhD in sociology from the University of Chicago in 2024 and is a Research Methodologist at NORC at the University of Chicago. Trained as a sociologist, demographer, and survey researcher, Ilana's interests cover three primary domains: (1) Immigration/ Latinos, (2) Family and care, (3) Survey methods.


Ilana's dissertation is a mixed-method comparative study of identity formation and the transnational lives of the Latino first and second-generation in the US, with a focus on transnational property ownership and wealth. She is also the winner of The James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility Dissertation Award in The Social Sciences. Her work has been supported by the National Institute on Aging (T32AG000243), the Allison Davis Research Award/ Mellon Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, and the University of Chicago Mansuetto Institute.
